John and his family purchased Advent in 1999. At that time, the company had one part-time and one full-time employee. Today, with a team of almost 90 people, John serves as the CEO and Chief Cheerleader. The company has experienced top-line sales growth of over 4306%, with average annual growth of
22% each year for almost 20 years.
Advent creates experiences that move people. The firm focuses on applying design thinking to solving business problems using a creative team of consultants, designers, marketers, engineers, techies, and builders. Together, the Advent team imagines and delivers immersive, interactive environments that engage audiences in stories and moments. From Stanford University’s Sports Hall of Fame to The Dallas Cowboys’ 91-acre World Headquarters; from the Nebraska College of Business to Belmont University’s Gallery of Iconic Guitars museum, the Advent team has completed over 2,000 projects.
John is passionate about marketing, brand, and engaging audiences. John’s first job was packing tomatoes at his uncle’s tomato farm. Since then, he has worked in radio, real estate, retail, fashion, licensing, publishing, database marketing and home shopping television.
Dayton, Tennessee, a town, at the time, of 5,000 people, is where John grew up. He graduated from Lipscomb University with a degree in Political Science and
minors in English and Art. John earned his MBA from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management with a concentration in Marketing and Service
Quality, where he was a really strong “C” student.
John’s greatest joy comes from his four sons, ages 16 to 24, and from his wife Kathryn’s record on the tennis court. John and his family have hiked part of the
John Muir and Appalachian trails. To relax, John enjoys smoking stuff—smoked meats, that is—on his Yoder YS640 Pellet Smoker.
